- Keep small change on hand to pay for pictures of locals, a shoe shine, or any other encounters. When others see you are giving out money, others will come. Be discreet for your own sanity.
- Visit the equator, a must see stop while in Quito. Demonstrations of flushing water in the Northern and Southern hemispheres and some other tricks give it nice memory to bring home.
- If going to Otavalo from Quito, on the way up the Andies Mountains, stop at the highest point of the equator for some pictures.
- The Otavalo Market is a must stop with great shopping jewelry, alpaca/wool sweaters, bags, rugs.
